As part of a visit to Goygol, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of a Flag Square Complex.

The tricolor flag with a star and the crescent moon, which was an attribute of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, became a symbol of Azerbaijan’s independence again at the end of the last century. This historic event was the epitome of one of the brilliant ideas of the nationwide leader. A clear proof of this is the fact that after the restoration of independence of our country this flag was raised by great leader Heydar Aliyev in Nakhchivan for the first time. Today the Azerbaijani flag flies proudly in the most influential international organizations and at prestigious international events. Respect and honor for the country and state attributes are among the biggest values we have inherited from the great leader. Every Azerbaijani considers the state flag a source of pride.

President Ilham Aliyev has a very respectful attitude to our state symbols. The establishment of flag squares not only in the capital but also in the regions is a result of government policies in this area.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the construction of the flag square complex in Goygol began in May 2012. The state flag flying at a height of 50 meters is clearly visible from anywhere in the district. The complex has broad promenades and is decorated with the national coat-of-arms of the country.

The head of state reviewed a photo stand describing the process of construction of the complex.

President Ilham Aliyev also visited a "Museum of Azerbaijan’s state symbols". The museum displays photos of various coats-of-arms of Azerbaijan from different times. There are emblems of Nukha, Yelizavetpol, Nakhchivan, Guba, Shusha, Shamakhi, Lankaran, Zagatala districts, the province of Baku, the Azerbaijan SSR, the Azerbaijan society of public councils and the independent Azerbaijan. The museum also has maps of the Azerbaijani states of Safavid, Aggoyunlu, Garagoyunlu and Eldegiz, as well as those dating back to 1918-1920 and 1991. Also of great interest are flags that served as attributes in different periods of our history.
