The groundbreaking ceremony of an Olympic Park has been held in Ganja.
The ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The head of state was informed in detail about the conceptual design of the modern Olympic Park to be built for conducting sports events of national and regional importance. It was noted that the Olympic Park would fully meet the standards of the International Olympic Committee. The design of the giant sports facility has been completed in a short time.
The President of Azerbaijan was informed that the main building would consist of structures representing a circle surrounded by arcs and other curves. The Olympic Park will operate a shooting range and a room for table games. It will have all the conditions for training and competitions in boxing, weightlifting and aerobics, as well as recreational activities of athletes and professionals. The multi-purpose competitions hall can accommodate 1,500 spectators.
The Olympic Park will also have a swimming pool, wrestling and gymnastics gyms. Spectators watching various competitions at this complex will enjoy the conditions meeting the latest standards. All necessary measures will be taken to provide news coverage of sporting events, and modern infrastructure is available to do that. All the rooms will be fitted with high-quality supplies and equipment.
President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the Olympic Park would have a football stadium meeting international standards. The latest scientific and technical innovations will be used in the establishment of basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. The Olympic Park is also expected to have a hotel.
President Ilham Aliyev was also informed about the materials that will be used during construction. It was noted that the construction work was scheduled for completion in 2017.
The President was told that in terms of the size and scope of services, the Ganja Olympic Park would be the only such sports facility in the CIS. It will have the conditions for doing all sports. The Olympic Park will impart further beauty to the general appearance of Ganja, which has been growing rapidly in recent years.
