President Ilham Aliyev has attended the inauguration of the Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Batabat motorway.

Thanks to the socio-economic development taking place under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, major road transport projects are being implemented in Baku and in all the regions of the republic, new roads are being laid, existing highways are being reconstructed to the latest standards and multi-functional road junctions are being built. The fact that these projects currently embrace every district, village and settlement is to be welcomed. The reconstruction of the Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Batabat motorway is further evidence that such projects are widely developed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, too.

The Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Batabat motorway, which occupies a special place among the major projects linked to the modernization of the road transport infrastructure in Nakhchivan implemented in the past few years, will serve in the first instance to improve the social and living conditions of the population. The road, which is built to a high standard, fully guarantees the convenient and easy circulation of traffic.

The head of state first of all viewed the stands where the technical and economic details of the road were on display.

Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov told President Ilham Aliyev that the construction work on the 88.8 km long road had been carried out to a high standard and was completed over two years. The safe circulation of traffic is ensured on the road which is built in line with modern requirements. The new road is of major economic significance not just for the city of Nakhchivan and Shahbuz district but for the whole of the autonomous republic, too.

It was noted that during the construction work the roadbed was broadened and the carriageway was widened to 17 m in some places. Bridges, concrete mudflow conduits and water channels were also built on the Nakhchivan-Shahbuz-Batabat motorway. Signal mounts and road signs to ensure road traffic safety were also installed while the construction work was being carried out.

President Ilham Aliyev also viewed a road map of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

It was noted that the development of the road transport infrastructure in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is in the focus of attention today and that particular importance is attached to updating the transport complex.

Work is also being carried out at the same time to improve rural roads and the roads between villages. All in all, 164 km of roads were laid or had major repairs carried out on them and were commissioned, 21 bridges were built and 12 bridges repaired in the autonomous republic in 2013. Under the order from President Ilham Aliyev dated 5 March 2013, 6.3 million manats were allocated for the construction of the 25.6 km long Hajivar-Vaykhir-Sirab highway linking 13 settlements in Babak district. The construction of the road was completed for this sum.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the road, sat behind the wheel of a car and drove along the new motorway.
