President Ilham Aliyev has received the newly appointed NATO Assistant Secretary General Sorin Ducaru.

The newly appointed NATO Assistant Secretary General Sorin Ducaru conveyed greetings on behalf of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to the President of Azerbaijan.

Saying that NATO and Azerbaijan have been partners for 20 years, Sorin Ducaru stressed the importance of developing the bilateral relations. Sorin Ducaru said the purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan was to join the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the Partnership for Peace Programme and attend the information days to be held under the Science for Peace and Security Programme.

President Ilham Aliyev recalled with satisfaction his meetings and discussions held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, hailing them as a success. Saying that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO had a long history, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his hope that the cooperation partnership between the country and the organization would be continued in different areas, particularly in energy and Afghanistan-related issues.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings of Anders Fogh Rasmussen and asked Mr. Ducaru to deliver his greetings to the Secretary General of NATO.
