Then the Azerbaijani President spoke with the Ambassador.

Ambassador Mohammed Huseyn Hasan Zaroug indicated that it was a great honor for him to be appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan, a country led by such an authoritative personality as President Ilham Aliyev. The Ambassador communicated greetings and deep respect for the head of state and the people of Azerbaijan on behalf of President of Sudan Omar Hasan al-Bashir. Stressing that the two countries were sharing common values, the Sudanese diplomat indicated that his country was supporting Azerbaijan’s cause in relation to the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the resolutions Azerbaijan has submitted to the Organization of Islamic Conference and the UN. He pointed to the importance of expanding economic cooperation between Sudan and Azerbaijan. Mohammed Huseyn Hasan Zaroug stressed that considering Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in the oil sector, his country was interested in benefiting from it in view of the development of Sudan’s own oil industry, and in Azerbaijani investment in Sudan’s energy sector. Noting that many specialists currently holding senior posts in Sudan’s oil industry have received education in Azerbaijan, the Ambassador pointed to the need for an agreement whereby Sudanese students could study in Azerbaijan again.

Agreeing with the Ambassador’s opinion over bilateral relations, President Ilham Aliyev spoke highly of Sudan’s support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in international organizations as regards the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the support of our countries for each other in international organizations.

The head of state expressed his gratitude for the greetings of President Omar Hasan al-Bashir and asked the Ambassador to pass on his greetings to the head of Sudanese state.
