Ilham Aliyev checked out the building and reconstruction works, carried out on Alat-Astara-Iran state border highway

As per the agenda of his trip to the southern regions, President Ilham Aliyev checked out the building and reconstruction works on Alat-Astara-Iran state border highway.

The President arrived at the construction site of the new road.

Minister of Transportation Ziya Mammadov briefed the President on technical economic details of the new road. It was mentioned that, the general area of the Alat-Astara-the Islamic Republic of Iran state border highway, the construction of which commenced in March of 2009, used to be 243 kilometers prior to reconstruction. The most convenient routes were chosen during the project phase and as a result of the reconstruction works, the road had been downsized 38 kilometers, making the length of the overall highway 205 kilometers. The width of the new road next to Alat is 27.5 meter and has four traffic lanes. The construction of two road junctions is almost over. The length of the road junctions are 86.6m and 101m respectively, with each bearing four lanes. 87 percent of the building-construction works have been carried out in compliance with the project. The finalization of the construction works is scheduled for the end of 2011.

The width of the road will provide for easy and unhindered movement of vehicles to and from the capital.

President Ilham Aliyev gave instructions for high-quality and timely completion of construction works, as well as the restoration procedures in the surroundings of the highway.
