Ilham Aliyev examined the construction of the Astara Olympic Sports Center

As part of a trip to Astara, President Ilham Aliyev examined the construction of the Olympic Sports Center.

It was indicated that the construction of the center commenced in accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev from 14 September 2005 “On additional measures to speed up the socioeconomic development of districts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the city of Lankaran and districts of Astara, Lerik, Masalli, Yardimli. The construction, which covers an area of around five hectares, started in the summer of 2007. According to the master plan, the center, to be built in a national architectural style in the form of an octagonal star, will include the main two-storey building with a universal gym. The gym will be able to seat 1,000 people. The same building will have fitness and training gyms, a lobby, a cloakroom, an information desk, a canteen, offices, a medical station, coach’s and doctor’s offices, etc.

It was noted that the two-storey building of the swimming pool with 200 seats will have a swimming pool 51 meters long and 31 meters wide, offices for coaches, doctors, an inventory room, a canteen and other facilities. According to the master plan, four two-storey cottages, a football pitch, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, a running track and a car park will also be built. Autonomous gas, water and electricity lines, sewage and communications are to be run to the center, green belts and recreation areas established, the building is to be fitted with modern equipment, and ventilation and other systems installed. The center is to be commissioned before the end of this year.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with the work done and gave instructions and recommendations.
