Ilham Aliyev and Mahmoud Abbas held talks in an expanded format with the participation of delegations

After a face-to-face meeting, negotiations between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas were held in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.

Addressing the meeting participants, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said:

- Dear Mr. President!

I would like to welcome you to Azerbaijan again and thank you for accepting my invitation to visit our country. This is a very important and historic visit. This is the first visit by the President of the State of Palestine to Azerbaijan. I am very glad to see you in Azerbaijan. We have just had very sincere, open and constructive discussions related to the situation in our region and to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. We are demonstrating mutual understanding on this issue. As I have said, we will continue to support you in international organizations and will do everything in our power. We also hope to expand our bilateral relations and intend to elevate them to a new level. I think there are good opportunities for expanding our contacts, primarily in the area of culture, and for economic cooperation, potential investment projects and, of course, the strengthening of a political dialogue. I am confident that during your visit we will have more opportunities to discuss the prospects for cooperation in various fields and see the dynamic development of our relations. Your visit to Azerbaijan is an important cornerstone of our relations. I am sure that after this visit we will witness even more progress.
Welcome to Azerbaijan again!

It is a great honor for us to be in Baku, in Azerbaijan. This may be our first visit, but we will try to make them more frequent in the future. We will certainly be pleased to see Your Excellence in Palestine at any time of your convenience.
Mr. President! As you have mentioned, we have discussed all the issues, your activities and the talks on our country’s accession to the UN as a fully-fledged member.
