President Ilham Aliyev has arrived in the city of Sumgayit.
The head of state visited and laid flowers at the monument to nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev in the center of Sumgayit.
President Ilham Aliyev was informed that important steps were being taken over the last several years to facilitate the socioeconomic development of Sumgayit, one of the country’s major industrial hubs. Gross domestic product accounted for 250 million manats in Sumgayit in the first six months of this year, which constitutes a 30 per cent growth in comparison with the same period of last year.
It was indicated that as a result of the measures being taken over 1,000 permanent jobs were created in Sumgayit in the first six months of 2011. New educational, health and cultural facilities were built and commissioned in the city in the 2003-2010 period, and this process is still ongoing. Important landscaping work is currently under way in Sumgayit.
