Ilham Aliyev attended the reopening of Children and Youth Sports School No 1 after major overhaul

President Ilham Aliyev has attended the reopening of Children and Youth Sports School No 1 after major overhaul.

Teachers and pupils of the school warmly welcomed the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the school.

It was indicated that the school, commissioned in 1967, has nurtured many winners and medalists of Olympic Games, World and European champions in various sports. A section of the school has been refurbished, while the rest has been rebuilt.

Construction and major overhaul operations commenced in 2008. The school covers a total area of 3 hectares, roofed space is 5,500 square meters, of which 3,000 square meters are new structures. The complex consists of several buildings. There is an office building, gyms and various rooms here.

First, the head of state met sportsmen on the football pitch and talked to them. The school’s football pitch is in line with modern requirements and has a natural turf imported from the Netherlands. A total of 136 pupils are learning the secrets of football here. The stadium can accommodate 670 viewers. The facility has a modern rain removal system.

While reviewing the school, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the first floor of the building has a boxing, volleyball and basketball courts, a swimming pool, a medical station and a sauna, while the second floor has a work-out center, an archive, fitness and tennis gyms. The school also has a shooting gallery and a conference room for various activities.

The head of state examined the boxing gym equipped with all the conditions to do the sport.

When reviewing the boxing equipment gym, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the equipment available was in line with modern standards. Seventy-two people are doing boxing at the school.

The basketball court covering an area of 1,320 square meters has been renovated. A total of 100 young sportsmen are doing basketball at the school and have all the conditions necessary.

Young people also have a modern swimming pool. The 25-meter pool covering 1,320 square meters is among the newly-built facilities. A total of 100 people are doing swimming here.

The school’s fitness center is also in line with high standards. President Ilham Aliyev was informed that it has the latest equipment.

It was mentioned during familiarization with the tennis gym that young people are taking more interest in this sport now. Considering that, the capacity of the tennis gym has been expanded.

A boxing training gym has also been commissioned at the school.

President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the 134 sq. m. work-out gym which has modern sports facilities.

At the shooting gallery, 56 young people are studying the shooting skills. In general, sporting equipment of the world’s leading companies has been used in the material and technical provision of the school.
The head of state was also informed of two new tennis courts.

During the reconstruction, the school yard was landscaped, green areas established and a substation installed to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
