President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.

The head of state congratulated Philippe Lefort on being appointed as the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus. Emphasizing that the relations between the European Union and regional countries had entered into a new stage of development, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that this cooperation would continue to expand.

The European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Philippe Lefort, communicated greetings on behalf of the high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, to the head of state. He said Catherine Ashton was very interested in a further enhancement of relations with regional countries.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings of the high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, and asked to communicate greetings on his behalf.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union in various spheres, in particular the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
