Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the establishment of the Organizing Committee to take measures in relation to the nomination of Baku to host the Summer Olympic Games in 2020

The Olympic Games are the most important and spectacular sporting event at the center of attention of world states. The active participation of Azerbaijan in the Olympic movement and the results achieved by our sportsmen in the Olympic Games, while demonstrating the country’s potential in sports, become an indicator of its overall development and influence the international standing.

In order to further strengthen public policies in the field of physical culture and sports, expand the Olympic movement and promote it on a broad geographic area, the city of Baku has been nominated to host the 32nd Summer Olympic Games in 2020.

The arrangement of such prestigious events in the capital of Azerbaijan will contribute to a further enhancement of the country’s authority in the sporting world.

Governed by clause 32 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in order to take measures in relation to the nomination of Baku to host the Summer Olympic and Special Olympic Games in 2020, I hereby resolve as follows:

1. To set up an Organizing Committee of the following make-up to promote the candidacy of Baku to host the Summer Olympic and Special Olympic Games in 2020:

Kamaladdin Heydarov – Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Shahin Mustafayev – Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Samir Sharifov – Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Abulfaz Garayev – Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Ali Abbasov – Minister of Communication and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Fizuli Alakbarov – Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Karam Hasanov – Chairman of the State Committee on Property of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Rovnag Abdullayev – President of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan

2. To task the Organizing Committee with resolving all the issues relating to the nomination of Baku to host the 32nd Summer Olympic and Special Olympic Games in 2020.

3. To task the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Mayor’s Office of Baku, jointly with the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan with preparing the application to be submitted to the International Olympic Committee in accordance with the procedure for accepting the candidacy of a city for hosting Olympic Games and in coordination with the Organizing Committee.

4. To task the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan with resolving the issues arising from the present Order.
