Ilham Aliyev received the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Syrian Arab Republic

President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Syrian Arab Republic and co-chairman of Syria-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission, Sufian Allow.

Having stressed the significance of the first meeting of the Syria-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission launched in Baku, the President expressed confidence that the event would contribute to discussions of economic cooperation between the two states. Describing such gatherings as a sign of development of the bilateral relations, President Ilham Aliyev expressed assurance that the two countries would soon yield practical results in economic field. Recalling the official visit by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Baku, the President characterized the creation of intergovernmental commission as one of the successful outcomes of that meeting. President Ilham Aliyev said he was interested in further strengthening of partnership between Azerbaijan and Syria in political and economic fields and multifarious relations.

Sufian Allaw conveyed greetings and best wishes of President Bashar al-Assad and the people of Syria to President Ilham Aliyev. The guest said that it was a source of great honor for his delegation to meet with President Ilham Aliyev on the first day of gathering of the Syria-Azerbaijan intergovernmental commission. He added that strengthening of relations between friendly and fraternal Syria and Azerbaijan is a manifestation of mutual respect between the two states.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude for greetings from his counterpart Bashar al-Assad and asked him to convey his regards to the Syrian President as well.
