President Ilham Aliyev has examined progress of reconstruction at the Nizami culture and recreation park and attended the opening of a chess school in Guba.

First, the head of state reviewed progress of reconstruction at the Nizami culture and recreation park located at the intersection of the Samad Vurgun and Gasim Ismayilov streets. While walking about the park, President Ilham Aliyev was informed about the landscaping and creative work under way. It was indicated that public catering and social facilities of the park have been reconstructed and their façades covered with slabs. The staircase that links the Guba city to the Girmizi Gasaba settlement has been reconstructed and two entry gates coated in aglay stones built. An area of 3,500 square meters has been covered with tiles, an 800 square meter green area established and an outdoor museum of outstanding personalities set up. There are 16 panels featuring reproductions of Nizami Ganjavi’s works, a new lighting and irrigation systems here.

It was noted that the façade of the chess school was finished with the aglay stone in the shebeke style. An 18-meter fortress has been built in the park. A 12-meter state flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been hoisted on the fortress. The old building of the chess school located in the Nizami culture and recreation park and covering an area of 2.25 hectares was knocked down and a new two-storey building with a total area of 800 square meters built instead.

The building of the chess school, which has the form of a rook, lends special beauty to the park. Its construction commenced in April 2010. In the school lobby, there are photo sections reflecting the attention and care of great leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev to the development of chess and chess players. Also demonstrated are the successes, cups and diplomas won by students of the Guba chess school, which has been functioning since 1983.

On the first floor of the school, there is a computer lounge and six classrooms. All rooms are provided with a wireless Internet connection. On the second floor there is a hall where 300-350 sportsmen can compete at a time. The competitions held here can also be watched on monitors. There are classrooms and offices here.

It was brought to the President’s attention that there are branches of the Guba chess school in 11 secondary schools.

The development of this game in the district is confirmed by the successes made.

The head of state gave a high assessment to the work done and issued instructions and recommendations.
