Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a water and sewage facility in Ujar.

Construction workers warmly welcomed the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the centralized water supply system in Ujar was built in the 1970s. It was using sub-artesian wells in the Potu village of Goychay District and irrigation canals as a source. In accordance with a new project, water will come from the Kulullu spring in Agsu District. There is a plan to build a drainage intake facility in Kulullu and lay a D400-mm and 60-km gravity conduit from here to Ujar. Under the project, water will also be supplied to 15 villages located along the pipeline.

It was mentioned that a new 108-km water distribution network and a new reservoir with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters are to be built. According to the project, 90 km of sewer lines and 15 sewage pumps will be built in Ujar. A modern wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters per day will be built. As a result of the project and considering the long-term development plan covering the period until 2035, water supply and sanitation of 20,000 people in Ujar and 32,000 people in 15 villages will be considerably improved. “The project on improving water supply and sewage systems in Ujar”, to be funded from the state budget, is due to be completed within 20 months.

Then the President laid the foundation of the water and sewage facility in Ujar.

The head of state lowered a metal capsule into the foundation and launched the grouting pump.
