President Ilham Aliyev has examined progress of major overhaul of the Muganli-Yevlakh section of the Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh highway.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said that one of the numerous projects aiming to improve the road and transport infrastructure in the country is the major overhaul of the Muganli-Yevlakh section of the Baku-Shamakhi-Yevlakh highway which is ongoing on the President’s instruction. This road is of particular importance because it connects the country’s major regions. The road was used without renovation for a long time. Therefore, its reconstruction started on the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev in March 2010.

President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the stands reflecting the work progress.

It was mentioned that the project is valued at $404 million. The road lies through mountain and landslide areas that are difficult to pass. In order to prevent damage from the frequent landslides in the Agsu pass, noted for its complex terrain, and to ensure the safety of traffic, extensive reinforcement and excavation work is currently under way. According to the two-year project, the major overhaul of the road will involve excavation of 2,587,000 cubic meters of land and installation of 293 water pipes. Besides, six bridges over the highway will be knocked down and rebuilt. The road will be coated with 357,000 tons of asphalt to be laid in three layers.

President Ilham Aliyev issued instruction on building the road in time and with high quality.
