To the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellence Mr. Ilham Aliyev

04 November 2011, 19:00

Dear Mr. President,

At a time when the annual pilgrimage is coming to an end, Michelle and I would like to send our greetings to American and other Muslims of the world on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, congratulate the pilgrims on the successful completion of the rituals associated with one of the key pillars of Islam, and wish you all the best.

We are very happy that three million Muslim pilgrims performing the rituals that serve as reminders of the shared Abrahamic roots of three of the world’s major religions have been joined by thousands of American Muslims. In addition to performing Hajj this year, Muslims of the world will be thinking about their relations with Allah, commemorating Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son and giving food to the less fortunate. Most Muslims of the world have decided to demonstrate their readiness to show compassion to the needy, including those suffering from drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.

At a time when people from all walks of life forget about their differences in order to channel their efforts into even bigger causes, the diversity granted to us by Allah is a source of our strength and an example for the entire mankind.

On behalf of the American people we would like to extend our greetings to all Muslims of the world on Eid al-Adha and congratulate those who have successfully completed their Hajj pilgrimage. Eid Mubarak.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama
President of the United States of America
