President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of a new circular road and two road junctions on the 9th kilometer of the Alat-Astara highway.
The head of state arrived at the Alat settlement to attend the opening of the road.
As is the case in all other spheres, the rapid economic development of Azerbaijan has facilitated fundamental changes in the country’s road transport infrastructure. Over a very short period of time all major highways in Azerbaijan have been completely renovated and expanded. Measures to regulate traffic on these roads continue to be taken.
The trunk road linking Baku with southern and western districts of the country is now divided into two sections in the Alat settlement. One stretches to the Iranian border and the other to the border with Georgia. Heavy traffic used to create congestion on the intersections and junctions here. According to the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev over this problem, the construction of a new road and two road junctions started on the section of the highway passing through Alat in November 2009. The work has been carried out by “AzerInshaatServis” LLC for the Ministry of Transport. The construction was completed within two years.
Familiarizing the President with design and estimate documentation, Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said the four-lane road, 9 km in length, belongs to the first category. Also built has been a 7-km access road. Considering the intensity of traffic, as well as the fact that this international road is used by heavy-duty vehicles, special attention has been paid to the durability and stability of the road. It was mentioned that the passage of the road outside the center of Alat would ease congestions in this settlement too. The two junctions built along the road provide unimpeded and safe movement of vehicles. Then, President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the new road.
