Ilham Aliyev received the outgoing Latvian Ambassador

President Ilham Aliyev received the outgoing Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Latvia, Mikhails Popkovs, upon the completion of his diplomatic activities in Azerbaijan.

The President underlined that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia had expanded during the diplomatic mission of Mikhails Popkovs in Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev praised the expansion of cooperation between the two states, while noting the importance of high-level reciprocal visits for development of relations.

The Ambassador said he arrived in Azerbaijan in late 2005, just after the first official visit of the Latvian president to the country, and stated that he had personally witnessed rapid development processes since that time. The guest especially praised the high growth rate in Azerbaijan, mentioning the role of the reforms carried out under the leadership of the incumbent Azerbaijani president, and characterized such rapid growth as a rare happening in the history.
