Presidents of Azerbaijan and Mauritania held talks in an expanded format

After a face-to-face meeting, President Ilham Aliyev and President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz held talks in an expanded format with the participation of the visiting delegation.

In an address to meeting participants, President Ilham Aliyev said:

- Dear Mr. President!

Dear guests!

Let me warmly welcome you to Azerbaijan again!

This is the first official visit by the President of Mauritania to Azerbaijan. I am sure that the visit will play an important part in the development of our relations. The agreements reached and documents signed during the visit will certainly determine the future of our relations.

We are paying special attention to bilateral relations and believe that a lot can be done in this format. We have exchanged views on a number of issues. We believe that we must rapidly develop our relations in all spheres. Our political relations are positive. I am sure that our cooperation within international organizations will be successfully continued. Our cooperation within the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference is particularly important.

There is a mutual interest in political and economic affairs. We have discussed different economic aspects today. Investment projects, joint activities, expansion of trade – we must achieve rapid development in all these areas. I believe that this visit will elevate our relations to a new level because state visits are very significant. Most importantly, there will be palpable results and specific projects to implement after the visit.

I am sure that your visit will be very successful and open up opportunities to develop our ties.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, President of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz said:

- Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim!

Your Excellence Mr. President!

Let me thank you for the invitation to pay this official visit to Azerbaijan. I am proud to be in your friendly country. I would like to thank you on my own behalf and on behalf of the whole delegation. I do hope that this visit will contribute to the development of bilateral relations and bolster relations between our peoples.

We are intent on cooperating with Azerbaijan in different spheres. We are also interested in developing our relations within the framework of international organizations – the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference.

The development of economic relations is of top priority. These relations cover trade, economy and other spheres, and our country has a lot of opportunities in these directions. We simply need to use these opportunities effectively. Our country has extensive mineral resources. We want to benefit from your experience in the development of these resources. We know that Azerbaijan has a lot of experience and we are interested in benefiting from it. Our country has extensive gold, copper and other resources. I would also like to highlight our livestock breeding sector because there are opportunities for cooperation in this sphere too. At the same time, our country plays an important part in our region for fishing reserves. Therefore, there are extensive opportunities for cooperation in this sphere too.

I do hope that this visit will play an important role and help bring our countries closer together and improve economic cooperation. Of course, Azerbaijan has extensive oil and gas opportunities and a lot of experience. We want to benefit from Azerbaijan’s experience and assistance. All these issues can be implemented through different projects. Therefore, I am hopeful that effective steps will be taken after this visit. In general, I hope the visit will lay the groundwork for the implementation of new projects and development of our relations.

Of course, the presence of a political will and interest will lay the foundation for the development of economic relations and contribute to friendly relations between us. Despite the long distance between our countries, I am confident that we can develop our ties. This is our intention.

Mr. President, we have exchanged views on the development of economic relations. I do believe that this visit will effectively serve the interests of our fraternal and friendly peoples.

Mr. President, I would like to invite you to pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. I would also like to thank all the ministers and ambassadors attending this meeting.
