After the face-to-face meeting, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili held a meeting in an expanded format with the participation of delegations.

President Ilham Aliyev welcomed the President of Georgia to Azerbaijan again. “We often have meetings and discussions in Azerbaijan, Georgia and other countries,” the President of Azerbaijan said, adding that there is always a need for an exchange of views on current issues of bilateral relations.

President Aliyev said the sides had exchanged views on the regional situation and bilateral projects during their meeting earlier. Noting that bilateral cooperation was developing successfully, he said there was mutual understanding, coordination and support in all areas of life between Azerbaijan and Georgia, including political, economic and energy spheres. The head of state expressed his confidence that this visit would promote bilateral ties and identify ways of further developing the friendly and fraternal relations.

“Indeed, every time I come to Baku, I admire not only the progress but also the rapid development of Azerbaijan,” President Mikheil Saakashvili said. He said that even during his first visit to Azerbaijan he had witnessed extensive development under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Indicating that Azerbaijan had won the votes of 155 countries around the world to be elected to the UN Security Council, the President of Georgia described it as an all-time record and a world-level achievement. “This demonstrates the road Azerbaijan has covered as a regional leader both domestically and internationally, as well as its economic clout and political standing,” President Mikheil Saakashvili said. He stressed that the development, alongside Baku, of Azerbaijani districts and the country's economy, including the non-oil sector, was very gratifying.

“This is very gratifying,” President Mikheil Saakashvili said. He added that thanks to President Ilham Aliyev the cooperation between the two countries was of exemplary nature.
