President Ilham Aliyev has attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the water and sewage system of Masalli which will be reconstructed as part of the second phase of the “National water supply and sewage services” project.

The President examined the stands reflecting the work carried out during the second project. The deputy chairman of the “Irrigation and Water Management” Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC), Mammadsadig Guliyev, informed the President of Azerbaijan that the water system of Masalli was in serious need of an upgrade. The sewage treatment plant the construction of which was halted in 1990 was also in disrepair.

It was noted that under the new project the per capita consumption of water in Masalli would reach 180 liters per day.

This means that by year 2030 water demand will amount to 2.4 million cubic meters if it is supplied to the distribution network on a round-the-clock basis. In order to improve the water supply of Masalli, the Vilashchay reservoir is used as the primary source. The new project also provides for the construction of a reservoir with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters. Drinking water will flow by gravity into the sewage treatment plant located 400 meters from the outlet of the Vilashchay reservoir.

The maximum daily capacity of this plant will be 22,000 cubic meters. This is enough to supply drinking water to Masalli and Jalilabad Districts. This facility will supply 6,566 cubic meters of water per day to a new reservoir also located in the same area. Then the water will flow by gravity to the distribution network through pipelines.

It was noted that the water network will consist of a reservoir with a capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, a trunk pipeline 6.8 kilometers in length and 630 mm in diameter, and distribution water lines 121.5 kilometers in length and 110-400 mm in diameter. All houses in Masalli will be connected to the network. According to the project, the total length of the sewage network and the reservoir will be 111.1 kilometers, while the diameter of pipes will range from 200 to 800 mm. The collected sewage will be processed by an extended aeration treatment plant the total capacity of which is calculated for an equivalent of 37,000 people and is capable of treating 242 liters of water per second.

To manage the facility remotely, the SKADA system will be installed. In addition to Masalli, the “Irrigation and Water Management” OJSC is implementing similar projects in Siyazan, Shabran, Agsu, Ismayilli, Jalilabad, Yardimli and Lerik Districts as part of the second phase of the “National water supply and sewage services” project.

After reviewing the project, President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation of the new water and sewage system in Masalli.
President Ilham Aliyev lowered a metal capsule into the foundation and launched the grouting facility.

The President of Azerbaijan gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
