President Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the “Azguntech” plant built by the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy in Sumgayit.

The director of the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy, Akim Badalov, informed President Aliyev that the “Azguntech” plant would operate two production lines – for solar modules and LED lamps. The construction of the line producing solar modules, based on advanced technologies of leading European companies, began in January last year. It is fully ready for operation now.

The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the plant and reviewed the six-storey office building of the enterprise.

It was indicated that the office building was fitted with all necessary equipment and supplies and is well suited for productive work. The plant is fully computerized and has a Wi-Fi network. There is also a fitness center.

While in the office building, President Ilham Aliyev watched a film describing the country’s policies in the field of alternative and renewable energy. In the lobby, the President examined sample solar panels produced by “Azguntech”.

It was noted that the panels ranging from 42 to 250 watts, equipped with 60 solar cells, will be manufactured at the level of international standards and produce energy. For more efficient lighting and better energy supply of residential buildings, streets, squares, various catering and social facilities, the plant also intends to manufacture high-tech LED lamps.

President Ilham Aliyev was also informed about the “One thousand buildings – one thousand power plants” project. It was noted that the project, primarily intended for residential buildings, aims to provide every building with an environmentally friendly and safe power plant which will autonomously convert solar energy into electrical. The stable energy to be generated by solar panels will be converted into alternating and transmitted to consumers. Surplus energy will be fed into the network and withdrawn from it at night. At the initial stage the project is designed for small settlements, but there is a great potential for its further expansion.

Of great importance is also the installation of solar panels on bridges and shopping centers and the construction of energy-filling stations.

While at the office building, the head of state reviewed the area where the Sumgayit high-tech park will be established.

Then, President Aliyev examined the line producing solar modules.

It was noted that 33 people work at the plant in each shift. After a transition to a three-shift cycle, the number of employees will be increased to 130. The plant uses the latest technology by renowned international companies in the field of alternative and renewable energy. The enterprise strictly enforces environmental regulations, health and safety.

The President launched the plant and observed the process.

It was mentioned that the line producing solar panels is fully automated. Initially, the plant will produce 120,000 panels a year and 240,000 in the future. After the commissioning of the LED lamp section following the stage of equipment, it will manufacture 36 million LED chips and 12 million LED lamps a year.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev reviewed a draft of the high-tech park to be established in Sumgayit by the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy.

It was noted that a total of 15 plants based on alternative and renewable energy and the energy efficiency technology are to be built in the park. The plants producing optical lenses, glass and basalt fibers, batteries, etc. to be set up in the park will enable the country to produce equipment required for the generation and use of alternative energy. This will reduce the cost of the equipment and significantly simplify its application. New generation LED lamps are highly efficient and durable. A lamp plant is to be established in the park for their production.

The President was also informed about the Sumgayit waste disposal plant project. It was noted that the plant would have a capacity of 146,000 tons a year.

President Ilham Aliyev wished the “Azguntech” staff every success.
