President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by the chairman of the Russian State Duma committee for CIS affairs and relations with compatriots, Leonid Slutskiy.

President Ilham Aliyev welcomed the fact that although the election to the Russian State Duma was held a short while ago, a regular meeting of the its committee for CIS affairs and relations with compatriots was being held in Baku. The President described this is an indicator of effective inter-parliamentary cooperation and the overall relations between the two countries.

Indicating that the bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation were multifaceted and covered all areas, President Ilham Aliyev said this cooperation was successfully developing in political, economic, trade and other areas. The President went on to say that the humanitarian cooperation between the two countries was an example for others. The head of state noted that cooperation in all areas was based on partnership and friendship, adding that the Presidents of the two countries viewed this relationship as a strategic partnership.

Pointing to the role of inter-parliamentary contacts in the enhancement of bilateral relations, the President said Azerbaijan was involved in cooperation activities within the CIS. He added that this cooperation was giving a further impetus to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence that the visit would create a good opportunity to get to know Azerbaijan.

The chairman of the Russian State Duma committee for CIS affairs and relations with compatriots, Leonid Slutskiy, said he was pleased to come to Azerbaijan. He emphasized the importance of the regular meeting of the Milli Mejlis standing committee on international relations and inter-parliamentary contacts and the Russian State Duma committee for CIS affairs and relations with compatriots being held in Baku. Leonid Slutskiy expressed his confidence that the inter-parliamentary cooperation would contribute to a further enhancement of relations between the two countries.
