Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the 19th century historical and architectural monument – the Shaki Juma Mosque

President Ilham Aliyev, his wife Mehriban Aliyeva, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife Emine Erdogan have visited the 19th century historical and architectural monument – the Shaki Juma Mosque.

The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Turkey were informed about the Juma Mosque and the Shaki Islamic medrese operating there.

It was noted that the Juma mosque is located in the center of the city and its area is 700 square meters. Local building materials such as gravel and burnt brick were used in the construction. The height of the mosque’s minaret is 24 meters.

The wooden pulpit with 10 steps is adorned with shebeke. The worship hall has three doors and 44 windows. The 2-meter-high mehrab is decorated with floral ornaments. On the second floor there is a worship hall for women. The medrese under the mosque employs both local teachers and those invited from Turkey.

President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met and talked with the students of the medrese.

After reviewing the Shaki Juma Mosque, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was presented with the Holy Koran.

The Turkish Prime Minister also presented the Juma Mosque with the Holy Koran.
