Ilham Aliyev reviewed National Orchid Garden in Singapore

As part of a state visit to Singapore, President Ilham Aliyev has reviewed National Orchid Garden in the country’s capital.

The deputy executive director of the Garden, Leong Chee Chieu, informed the President about unique plants of this garden. He reported that a unique orchid grown in National Orchid Garden has been given the name of the President of Azerbaijan. The certificate of the said flower was presented to the head of our state.

President Ilham Aliyev signed the Book of Distinguished Guests of National Orchid Garden.

Then President Aliyev toured National Orchid Garden located in Singapore’s Botanic Gardens. It was noted that the foundation of the garden, covering an area of 70 hectares, was laid in the late 19th century. The growing of orchids in the garden, which is a perfect example of tropical architecture, began in the early 20th century. In 1928, a decision was passed to protect orchids at national level. The garden currently has more than a thousand species of the flower and research to grow new species continues. There is also a research center here.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed about irrigation systems of the existing National Orchid Garden and the cultivation of plants in a cold environment.

In conclusion, the President of Azerbaijan was presented with books and pamphlets describing the National Orchid Garden and the species grown here.
