President Ilham Aliyev visited the newly built Heydarabad settlement in Sadarak region.
The regional community representatives greeted the President warmly.
It was noted that all the necessary infrastructure was created in the new settlement where administrative buildings of the Sadarak region are located. New residential houses have been built in the settlement for the people of the region. Up until now, tens of houses have been built and distributed to the residents in Heydarabad settlement. 16 additional houses will be presented to the residents soon. The general area of each of the new houses is thousand square meters. This area is intended for agricultural activities of the residents. Living room, kitchen and other rooms are located on the first floor of the two-storey house, and there are two rooms and a balcony on the second floor. The overall area of the apartment complexes is over 100 square meters. Telephone lines, gas, electricity and water pipes have been installed in all of the houses.
Extensive reconstruction-renovation works have been carried out, strips of greenery have been laid, and asphalt paved over the roads in the territory of the settlement.
President Ilham Aliyev viewed the photo stand reflecting the construction works in the settlement.

President Ilham Aliyev conversed with regional community representatives. The residents expressed their gratitude to the President for his attention and care.
President Ilham Aliyev congratulated residents of the settlement by saying:
- Let me congratulate you on the opening of the settlement. Beautiful houses and buildings have been constructed. The settlement is embarking on a new period. All the work has been done at a modern level. I am very pleased that the government of the republic has carried out this work in a quality manner. This is indeed a major event.
The Heydarabad settlement holds an important place in Azerbaijan’s history. You are face to face with the enemy, right on the border, and these places were once destroyed. Armenia’s policy of military aggression and occupation against Azerbaijan has affected this area as well. It was thanks to the activity, determination and wisdom of great leader Heydar Aliyev that Nakhchivan has survived. The then Azerbaijani authorities were doing nothing to protect Nakhchivan, did not send any assistance here. In fact, some individuals in the Azerbaijani government perhaps even wanted Nakhchivan to be occupied too. We had that information. Because Nakhchivan was a symbol of independence, a symbol of Azerbaijan’s independence. It is no coincidence that our tricolor national flag was first approved as state flag at a session of the Nakhchivan Supreme Mejlis on the decision of Heydar Aliyev. There was still quite a lot of time left for the break-up of the Soviet Union. Therefore, Nakhchivan was a symbol of independence, a symbol of intransigence. The people of Nakhchivan were united around Heydar Aliyev, which is why Nakhchivan managed to protect itself. The enemy could not take over Nakhchivan. The Armenians did have such plans and were making no secret of that. They are making no secret of that even now.
Sometimes they circulate ludicrous views and disseminate lies about Nakhchivan. Nakhchivan is ancient and inseparable Azerbaijani territory, and that will always be the case. The fate of both Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan was being decided in those years. No-one could predict how the situation would unfold because the developments unfolding around Nagorno-Karabakh led to the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, the Azerbaijani army could not protect our territories in Karabakh. Nakhchivan does not have a geographical connection with the rest of Azerbaijan. If Heydar Aliyev hadn’t come to Nakhchivan and done all the necessary work properly, Nakhchivan’s future could have been miserable. We could have lost our ancient lands.
It was only thanks to the activity and courage of the great leader, the bravery and selflessness of the people of Nakhchivan that Nakhchivan could be protected. Today, Nakhchivan is a modern and beautiful place, a successfully and rapidly developing place. The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has reached great heights in all areas. Just have a look at how many great things we have done in just one day, i.e. how many important facilities have been inaugurated – three schools, a hospital, this beautiful settlement. I will also attend the opening of a new hydro power station in Ordubad, newly-established enterprises and some other activities intended to resolve Nakhchivan’s drinking water problem. In other words, we can see this development and progress in all spheres – social, economic, industrial, military. When studying the situation on the border here, I saw again that the Azerbaijani army is protecting our borders securely and the enemy behind this mountain knows this very well. The Azerbaijani army is the strongest army in the South Caucasus today. Our army is getting stronger by the year, everything necessary is being done for army construction. The professional level of the army is rising, the arms and ammunition, military hardware are being purchased, and this will continue to be done. We are buying this hardware and ammunition with our own money earned by the hard work of the people of Azerbaijan. Therefore, it is only up to us to decide how much to allocate for military issues and how to use our resources. We are allocating whatever resources are necessary to the army and for military issues, and will continue to do so.
Azerbaijan is a powerful state today. I am sure that Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity will be restored. We will accomplish that. I would like to congratulate you again on this remarkable event, on the start of a new life in this settlement.

Speaking on behalf of the local community, teacher Nazanda Valiyeva expressed her appreciation for the new settlement. She stressed the invaluable contribution of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev to the development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. She indicated that the policy the foundation of which was laid by the nationwide leader was being successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev today.
After the meeting with residents of the settlement, President Ilham Aliyev toured the new flats.
