Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Kura Olympic training center in Mingachevir.

The ceremony participants warmly welcomed the head of state and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon to mark the opening and toured the center.

Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov informed the head of state that the center, built on order of the ministry, had a rowing base that had no analogues in Europe and the CIS.

During a trip to Mingechevir in 2004, President Ilham Aliyev visited the old rowing base and issued the instruction to reconstruct it in line with modern standards. After the preparation of design and estimate documentation, construction began in 2007.

Under the project, there is an office building, a swimming pool, a 250-people six-storey hotel resembling a ship, a gym, a rowing club, cottages, a tennis court, a hangar for boats at the center. Improvement and landscaping work has been carried out and places of rest established at the base. The base is already receiving requests from foreign countries. The international regatta in rowing, The President’s Cup, has been conducted in a satellite section of the base for three years.

President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the swimming pool, the hangar, the tower for referees, the hotel, and went on a motor-boat tour of the Kura.

Then the head of state met with sportsmen and representatives of the local public.
