President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the overhaul and reconstruction of secondary general school No 31 in the Yasamal district of Baku.

The work carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to expand the country's educational reforms and achieve qualitative changes in this area is already bearing fruit. To date, more than 2,200 school buildings have been built in the country. An unprecedented educational infrastructure has been put in place in Azerbaijan. Along with the construction of new educational institutions, the construction of additional school buildings for the already existing schools has also become widespread. Additional school buildings for about 2,000 schools have been built in recent years. More than 60 school buildings were renovated in Baku in 2011. Eighty-one schools were refurbished in 2012. Reconstruction of 120 schools is planned for this year, and this process is well under way. An important place in this process is occupied by the overhaul and reconstruction of secondary general school No 31 in the Yasamal district of Baku.

The head of state was informed that this educational establishment, built in the early 20th century, functioned as a specialized school for boys from 1936.

Functioning as an evacuation hospital in 1941-45, the school reopened its doors to students after World War II. The school had not been renovated for many years, which necessitated its major overhaul. Thanks to the attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan, reconstruction at the school has already been completed. The four-storey school with a total area of 4,000 square meters is designed for 650 pupils and has the necessary training facilities.

It was noted that lessons at the school would be held in one shift. All classrooms are refurbished to a high standard and fitted with training equipment and visual aids. In addition to three subject-specific laboratories, there are two classrooms for computer science, which have all the conditions for teaching information technology.

As is the case in other schools, special attention has also been paid to the heating system of classrooms. In addition, the school’s gym has been renovated and fitted with the necessary equipment for doing sports. The assembly hall is well suited for conducting various activities associated with school life. In the future there are plans to continue work on landscaping the area around the school and to expand the playground and the assembly hall.

After reviewing the school, President Ilham Aliyev gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
