President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the Oguz-Gabala section of the Garamaryam-Ismayilli-Shaki highway being reconstructed.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the President that the Garamaryam-Ismayilli-Shaki road is located on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range and is part of one of the country’s biggest travel routes. The road is 42 km long, of which a 20-km section falls onto Gabala and 22 km on Oguz Districts. The project owner is the Ministry of Transport and the contractor is Polad Yol Yapı.

The construction of the Garamaryam-Ismayilli-Shaki road began in May 2012. The Oguz-Gabala section, located between KP75 and KP95 of the highway, has been overhauled. Seven concrete bridges were rebuilt during the road construction. In addition, 13 aqueducts, seven bus stops and a road junction have been built along the road as well. The Oguz-Gabala section of the Garamaryam-Ismayilli-Shaki highway links five residential settlements, including the villages of Zaragan, Kichik Mirali, Mirzabayli, Zargarli and Nij.

It was noted that the road is important in improving traffic conditions with the north-western regions of the republic, as well as the development of the economy and tourism.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the road.
