Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the 18th century “House of Shaki Khans”, a historical and architectural monument which has been commissioned after major overhaul and reconstruction

As part of a visit to Shaki, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the “House of Shaki Khans”.

The cultural life of the country has been surrounded by great state care in recent years. President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have been reviewing cultural facilities during trips to the countryside. As and when appropriate, the head of state has provided instructions on their restoration. During a visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Shaki on 13 April 2006, the head of state issued an instruction on the restoration of the “House of Shaki Khans”, which had not been renovated for many years. As a result, the building dating back to the 18th century became completely rundown.

The head of state reviewed the stands describing the previous and current condition of the building, as well as Heydar Aliyev and M. F. Akhundzadeh Avenues.

During familiarization with the building, President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the restoration of the “House of Shaki Khans” was launched in November 2012. The house, consisting of six rooms, four corridors and two balconies, was built of raw bricks, while its windows are made in the shebeke style. The restoration of the building covering an area of 700 square meters was carried out on orders of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. One of the rooms is decorated with special designs and is intended as a living room.

It was noted that the "House of Shaki Khans", an 18th century historical monument, has been renovated for the first time. The restoration has focused on preserving the historical appearance of the building. The main room of the two-storey house displays photographs reflecting the history of Azerbaijan and portraits of people who have historically inhabited these territories. In accordance with an order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the “House of Shaki Khans” will operate as a memorial museum. Overall, there are 84 architectural monuments of global and local importance in Shaki. The “House of Shaki Khans” is part of the Upper State Historical-Architectural Reserve. In addition to the “House of Shaki Khans”, the reserve includes 25 registered sites.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed his satisfaction with the work done.
