President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the restored German Lutheran Church in Shamkir.

The President was informed that the restoration of the church began in May 2012 and was completed in July of this year.

Built by the Germans in 1909, the church has been restored after many years, its grounds have been landscaped and a park established outside it. The park is well suited for the effective organization of local people’s leisure and has various attractions for children. The building also has a room for the administration of various religious rites. The restoration and repair of the Lutheran church have been carried out at the initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The church covers an area of 10 hectares.

It was noted that the reconstruction, carried out as part of the ongoing project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation "Azerbaijan: Address of Tolerance", is yet another example of a caring attitude to our historical past and religious-spiritual values.

After reviewing the church, President Ilham Aliyev listened to a choir performance accompanied by the organ.

The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the work done at the church.
