President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the condition of the arched "Red Bridge" over the Gudyalchay river in the Krasnaya Sloboda settlement of Guba District after reconstruction.

One of the key priorities of the social policy pursued by the Azerbaijani government is to bring the road infrastructure in the country to a modern level. Recent years have seen fundamental reforms in this direction. It is noteworthy that along with Baku these reforms also cover the regions. The reconstruction of the arched "Red Bridge" over the Gudyalchay river is one of such measures. The bridge shortens the road from Krasnaya Sloboda to Guba city. The "Red Bridge" is also important as a historical monument. The reconstruction of the bridge also demonstrates the attention the Azerbaijani government pays to the preservation of our cultural and historical sites.

The President and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva reviewed the stands reflecting the previous condition of the "Red Bridge".

It was noted that the "Red Bridge" was built in 1851-1854. The semi-circular arches of the bridge are made of baked bricks and rest on poles that stand at a distance of 11.1 meters from each other. The foundation of arch supports is faced with hewn stone.

The President of Azerbaijan was informed about the basic parameters of the arched bridge.

It was noted that the bridge is 160 meters long, 7.6 meters wide and the height of its base is 7.39 meters. The bridge has 14 arches and 15 pillars. As a result of the damage caused to the arches by natural erosion, movement on the bridge was suspended for a long time. Major overhaul commenced in 2012 and reconstruction and strengthening work carried out on the arches and the foundation. The bridge is protected by the state as a monument of architecture.

The President and his wife were informed about the bridges built on the Guba-Gusar-state border of the Russian Federation road.
