President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the Azerbaijan National Golf Club in Guba.
Recent years have seen comprehensive reforms aimed at popularizing sports in Azerbaijan. The fact that these reforms are also covering the regions has led to a rapid increase in the number people doing sports in the districts. A modern sporting infrastructure is being put in place in the districts these days. The development of all sports is in the spotlight in Azerbaijan and the establishment of the National Golf Club in Guba is evidence of that.
The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the club.
During familiarization with the club, President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva were informed that the club, the construction of which began last year, has 44 golf vehicles. The President and the First Lady toured the golf club in an electric vehicle.
It was noted that the total area of the golf club is 92 hectares, while the golf course covers an area of 75 hectares. The office building houses a shop of sporting goods and a café. This facility is unique for the South Caucasus region.
This facility is the only 18-hole golf course in the region. Three artificial lakes have been established on the premises to create water barriers. There are also plans to conduct various training sessions in golf here. The conditions available at the Azerbaijan National Golf Club meet the highest international standards, which makes it possible to conduct various international competitions here in the future. The establishment of such a facility will contribute to the development not only of Guba but also of the region as a whole. It is also of great importance from the standpoint of development of regional small and medium-sized enterprise.
