I would like to welcome you to our country. I do hope that the first visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia to Azerbaijan will be successful.

During our one-on-one meeting we discussed the important issues of our bilateral ties and now we will continue that with the participation of our delegations.

We attach great importance to our bilateral relations. Malaysia is a close friend and partner for us. I am sure that this visit will give an impetus to our relations and we will strengthen our political and economic ties. We will work on the deepening of the relations between our peoples. Our peoples should know each other better in order to stay in touch and contribute to the successful development of bilateral relations.

The agenda of our cooperation is broad, it covers many areas. I am sure that your visit will produce very good results.

Members of the delegation will also hold discussions on important issues of the bilateral agenda related to political, energy security and regional security matters. So I hope that we will continue our active dialogue and friendship. The current visit is certainly of great importance, as it is a good measure of mutual trust and friendship. Once again, you are welcome!

Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohammad Najib Tun Abdul Razak said:

- Mr. President, thank you for such a warm and wonderful welcome. As I said on arrival last night, the dynamic and at the same time qualitative development under your leadership has made a deep impression on me. To see the transformation of Baku into a modern city and of Azerbaijan into a country building up its strength and a developing state with great potential is truly inspiring.

Your Excellency, I would like to congratulate you on such a perfect leadership. I was looking forward to this visit. I had heard a lot about your country and am very pleased with what I am seeing. In the future I would like to spend more time here and see this beautiful picture.

With regard to bilateral relations, our countries have established a very positive relationship. I do believe that based on this relationship, we can identify many areas of cooperation. I believe that this will be underpinned by cooperation in the oil and gas sector of your country. I think that the Memorandum of Understanding that will be signed today will mark the beginning of a very important stage in the development of our cooperation.
