Ilham Aliyev presented the gold medal to the champion of the First European Games Firdovsi Farzaliyev

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his wife, chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva and family members have watched the karate competitions of the First European Games at the Baku Crystal Hall.

President Ilham Aliyev, his wife Mehriban Aliyeva and family members first watched the kumite competitions.

Firdovsi Farzaliyev won the gold medal in the men's kumite (60kg) after defeating Italian Luca Maresca 4-0 in the final, earning Azerbaijan its first gold medal of the Baku 2015 European Games.

Then the award ceremony was held. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev presented the medals of the First European Games to the winners.

The national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. The national flag of Azerbaijan was raised.

Another Azerbaijani karate fighter Rafael Aghayev won the men's kumite (75kg) gold medal after beating Italian Luigi Busa.

Then the award ceremony was held. Chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva presented the medals to the winners.

The national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. The national flag of Azerbaijan was raised.

Azerbaijan claimed bronze medal in men's kumite (67kg) as Niyazi Aliyev outclassed German Ricardo Giegler 3-1.

Azerbaijan's first medal at the European Games was claimed by karate fighter Ilaha Gasimova, who took bronze in the women's Kumite (55kg) thanks to a victory over Spain`s Cristina Ferrer Garcia 5-2.
