Ilham Aliyev received Secretary General of Inter-Parliamentary Union

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said he is pleased to be visiting Azerbaijan, describing Baku as a beautiful city. He said the more he learns of Azerbaijan, the more he is interested in the country. Martin Chungong hailed the fact that representatives of different religions peacefully co-exist in Azerbaijan. He said the Inter-Parliamentary Union is interested in maintaining cooperation with the country. He said he heard only good of Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of promoting the world`s awareness of these realities.

President Ilham Aliyev said we want that comprehensive and objective information about Azerbaijan is spread, adding that it is important that guests from different countries, including parliamentarians come to Azerbaijan and see development here with their own eyes. Highlighting the importance of inter-parliamentary ties, the head of state said Azerbaijan maintains cooperation with parliamentary assemblies of CIS, Council of Europe, OSCE and other international organizations. The President said this multi-faceted cooperation yields good results. President Ilham Aliyev said high-level international events and visits organized in Azerbaijan play a special role in building an environment of dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding among peoples and nations. The head of state said IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong`s visit is a good opportunity for discussing issues relating to cooperation, and expressed his confidence that the visit will contribute to the expansion of bilateral relations.
