Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of Masazyr Salt Refinery

President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of a salt refinery of Azerbaijan Salt Production Union near the Masazyr Lake.

People gathered for the ceremony greeted the President with ardor.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening and toured the facility.

There was a photo exhibition in the refinery`s foyer featuring national leader Heydar Aliyev`s and President Ilham Aliyev`s participation in opening of different industrial facilities across the country.

During the tour of the facility, the President was informed that based on “Program for elimination of illnesses as a result of iodine deficiency through iodination of salt, “Azersun Holding” took the mission of building the first salt refinery plant in the country. The project was undertaken in partnership with Azerbaijan Investment Company.

The production facility, with 7 hectares of general area, has a daily processing capacity of 300 tons. The work mechanism of the plant is totally automated. Approximately 130 people will be employed at the refinery.

It was noted that additional road was constructed between Masazyr-Novkhany highway and the plant for transportation of salt, and blocks were laid at the coast to prevent soil and equipment from contact with water.

The plant`s “Azerduz” and “Bizim duz” brands of salt will be exported to world markets.

President Ilham Aliyev viewed the production samples of the plant.

While viewing the panorama of Masazyr Lake, the President was told that salt exists in two forms – as a layer in the ground and as a solution in the water of the lake with a general area of 10 square kilometers. The salt reserves of the lake is approximately 1 million 735 thousand tons.

Having looked at the model and photos of the plant in the conference hall, the President congratulated the staff and gave his instructions and suggestions.
